Ripple Launches RLUSD Stablecoin in Africa, Boosting Cross-Border Payments and Trading

Ripple Launches RLUSD Stablecoin in Africa

Ripple is taking a significant step by launching its stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD), in Africa in collaboration with fintech companies Chipper Cash, VALR, and Yellow Card. This dollar-pegged coin aims to assist businesses and institutions with cross-border payments, liquidity management, and trading tokenized assets, promising reliability in an often unstable financial environment.

Ripple emphasizes that RLUSD can simplify treasury processes, accelerate payments, and enhance security in trading tokenized assets like stocks or commodities. This positions RLUSD distinctly from traditional consumer offerings, directly addressing the needs of the business sector.

“RLUSD will not only facilitate payments but also be tested in climate risk insurance, providing immediate payouts based on weather data,” said Ripple.

RLUSD is issued by a trust company in New York and is regulated by the State Department of Financial Services. It went live at the end of 2024 and has already achieved a circulation volume of over $700 million.

Available on both Ethereum and the XRP Ledger, RLUSD is listed on major exchanges like Bitstamp, Kraken, and Gemini, making it widely accessible. The African partners express confidence in RLUSD as a bridge for institutions looking to integrate blockchain into their daily operations.

Ripple's move to Africa is part of a global trend where more investors and companies view stablecoins as a faster, cheaper, and safer alternative to traditional finance. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse describes this as a historic turning point, especially after the signing of the first nationwide stablecoin law by US President Donald Trump in July 2025.

Analysts predict that the market could grow from its current $250 billion to as much as $2 trillion, with traditional companies like Western Union already testing stablecoins for their remittance services.

In summary, Ripple's RLUSD not only introduces a new stablecoin to Africa but also connects technology, financial markets, and climate protection in one project, potentially increasing demand for Ripple products significantly.

XRP: Waiting for a Breakout Above $3

XRP has shown a positive trend, with the cryptocurrency rising by 2.39% at the beginning of the week. The price reached $2.888, indicating stability, but the anticipated breakthrough is still pending. The $3 mark remains a crucial threshold, and XRP's movement is closely tied to US monetary policy.

Market participants are looking towards potential interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve, which could provide additional strength to XRP. The correlation between XRP's price movements and a weaker dollar has been evident in recent weeks.

In conclusion, XRP's current trajectory is promising, but its future performance will depend on monetary policy decisions and regulatory developments. Investors are advised to stay informed and consider their options carefully.
